beta version :D
No, I'm not referring to these kind :
...rather paper ones! I had seen them in a jar as a gift given to a friend and upon closer examination their construction intrigued me.
Several months passed and by chance I overheard an acquaintance speaking of giving a similar gift. I jumped at the chance to learn of their secret, and now I know and will attempt to share. :)
As simple as the process is (or appears to be), the level of care required; at least initially; makes the transformation from simple strip of paper into 3 dimensional star something which cannot simply be gone about haphazardly. Giving them, and especially a jar filled with them, some real meaning as far as the effort which must be put into such a gift. At least in my admittedly somewhat skewed view of things.
Following is the process. It would be rather monotonous to transcribe the folding and such, instead I'll try to use pictures with some sparse commentary :
Beginning with the paper. It's thin (magazine pages could be substituted) and apparently manufactured specifically for this use. I've never bought any myself, though I hear it isn't cheap.
Next comes the forming of a flat pentagon shape. This is done by somewhat tying a flat "knot" initially and then making corresponding folds to build up the existing shape. These folds are required to be tight. Making them tight enough is critical for the formation of the star at the end.
Finally the remaining small bit of paper is tucked into the shape. Magically, while carefully squeezing the edges (fingernails work best to apply the pressure) the star will pop up into it's 3 dimensional shape. If the folds were not tight enough as discussed previously this step will be more difficult or the resulting star will not be shaped quite right.
Here is one last photo showing the relative size of these creations. The smiles they can bring are an order of magnitude larger! ;)
Having been a bit downtrodden recently this game has given me much need solace during the time I've played it. Even the subjectively bad parts about it, the somewhat slow pace and cases needing perhaps overly methodical actions to solve have been more than welcome presently. Losing yourself in another world is something which can make video games great. Somehow this game has managed to provide such for me as well as surprisingly calming references to my real life.
Anywho, this post is because I'm nearly finished with the first game and learned tonight a second (officially 2 1/2 I believe) one is already well on it's way. (Also because I've been slacking with several posts I had intended to make.)
It should be released early next month. :)

Interesting to see how things as they were so long ago. Sparse pictures to compliment the memories are pleasing. I cherished that car far more than anyone likely realized.

Before a few recent trips, 90% of the photos I took were probably of my pets. <blush> Only posting one group (because old, poor quality) here however I should go back and finish a few in progress posts to add a few more. Never enough white smiles. To quote my sister, "He's so cute I want to squeeze him until he screams (he does) ...then when he screams he's even cuter so I squeeze him more". I'm sorry Dud. <giggle>

She's come a long way. I have smiles contemplating such. Not everything has been perfect but what she has accomplished with her life thus far; given the resources she had to work with; is quite admirable.
I didn't say indeed even! Stay yourself. Goofy faces and big hair and Shrek feet included. You're amazing, though I still smirk to hear you say such. Thanks for being admirable.

Her own doing (I swear)!
Someone else should tell her she is (or can be when she wants to). Sigh, I'm not sure I'm believed solitarily.
What's the weirdest baby name you've ever heard (or considered)?
May I add great to the qualities? While looking through the 2005 Alberta list of boy names I came across (as a first name) Daniel-Benard-Danger. Sharing part of the name myself I'm extremely jealous of this child! But, yes, weird and great though not cruel at all.
